Health Center out-of-pocket costs:
- Abortion Pill: $450-475, depending on location
- In-Office Procedure: $550
Video Visit out-of-pocket costs:
- Abortion Pill: Sliding scale fees based on financial eligibility, $0-249

Insurance and Medicaid
carafem participates with several insurance plans and accepts Medicaid, depending on locations. To verify that your insurance or Medicaid will cover your appointment, please give us a call at 1 855-SAY-CARA. We will work with you to determine exactly what’s covered and how much you may need to pay out of pocket on the day of your appointment. We are unable to accept insurance or Medicaid for video visits at this time except in Illinois. If you have an active and eligible Medicaid card in Illinois, your abortion will be free.
Financial Assistance
Abortion care should be accessible to all who want it — cost should never be a reason you can’t get an abortion with carafem. We partner with abortion funds to offer financial assistance to those who qualify. In-Person Appointments
An appointment for the abortion pill with carafem is usually about an hour long, while an appointment for the in-office procedure takes about 90 minutes. Both types of appointment include a pregnancy test, ultrasound, blood work, and contraceptive counseling, as well as the abortion itself.
You will have plenty of time to ask your practitioner questions and go over the educational materials you will receive. Please bring an ID if you plan on using insurance.
Video Visit Appointments
After making an appointment, a carafem care coordinator will reach out to send you everything you need for your video visit: instructions on how to join the video visit, what you need to bring to the visit (ID and payment), and can help answer any questions you may have before your visit. They will also send you medical forms for completion.
The video visit will be conducted over a secure, private video connection and payment will be collected at that time. During your video visit, your health care provider will review your medical history, explain how to use the medications, and what to expect when you take the abortion pill. Your provider will answer any medical questions you have and prescribe the abortion pill if you qualify.

Immediate Evaluation
If you’d prefer to access care without scheduling an appointment, you can find out immediately if you are eligible for abortion pills by mail and get medication mailed to you in 1-4 business days. The process will take about 15 minutes, is available 24/7, and has sliding scale fees of $0-225. Financial aid may be available to those who qualify. 24-7 support will be available to you throughout your at-home care.
